Extended range of Fizeau objectives

Zygo have extended their range of Fizeau objectives. These objectives are used in Fizeau interferometers to create plano or spherical reference wavefronts that are used to examine the shape and radius of curvature of plano, spherical or aspherical optical surfaces. The main characteristic of a Fizeau interferometer is that the reference flat (RF) and beamsplitter (ST) are combined in one optical element – the Fizeau objective.

This results in a variety of advantages:

Reference and measurement wavefront are subject to identical conditions

Measurement results are not influenced by aberration (standard measurements)

No calibration necessary

Measurement accuracy only subject to quality of reference flat

Live strip charts available

Therefore, the quality of these reference flats is a decisive factor for the attainable absolute measurement accuracy. It lies between λ/10 and λ/50 (with λ = 632.8 nm being the measurement wavelength).

A dynaflect coating of the reference flats allows the use with both standard glass and high-reflective surfaces.
