Sensor crystals

Q-Sense offers a whole range of different surface coatings as well as protocols to chemically modify the sensor surface. The following types are kept in stock:

SX 301 - Standard Gold

The most commonly used sensor surface is pure gold (1,1,1). Au is chemically inert and easy to chemically modify in different ways. One such example is thiolated gold which creates a hydrophobic surface instead of the hydrophilic gold surface.

QSX 303 - SiO2

Silica surfaces are very hydrophilic. Main advantage utilised by customers is the ability to form lipid bilayers which act as an inert platform for further immobilisation of molecules. Examples are biotinised lipid bilayers to immobilise Streptavidin in the next phase, another example is NTA/Ni2+ modified bilayer to enable immobilisation of His-tagged proteins. Q-Sense offers protocols to conduct such chemistry at SiO2 surfaces.

QSX 304 - Stainless Steel SS2343

If you are interested in studying for example biofilm formation in process industry, you may use Q-Sense Stainless Steel sensor crystals. However Stainless steel is not as durable as gold if you are looking for a standard surface to create your own chemistry.

QSX 305 - Polystyrene coated

QCM-D is excellent when you would like to study the interaction between polymers and different biomolecules since the there is no need for optical transparency. Polystyrene is the most commonly used polymer surface, but other polymers can be spin-coated upon request.

SX 310 - Titanium coated

Titanium oxide surfaces are mainly used for implant research. Titanium is a commonly used material for bone anchored implants. The effect of hydroxi apatite coatings, adhesion proteins and other modifications can thus be examined using QSX 310.

Other materials

In addition Q-Sense offers sensor crystals with a variety of coatings. Examples include Aluminium, Tantalum, Tungsten, Copper, Platinum, Chrome, Iridium, Iron, Silicone carbide, Iron carbide, Silver and Cobolt.
