UV sensitive imaging with (EM) electron multiplication

Andor Technology the leading manufacturer of scientific imaging and spectroscopy equipment has extended their range of cameras by another member. The compact EMCCD camera Luca-r is now available with UV sensitivity. By replacing the glass entrance window with silica quartz the full range of the sensor’s sensitivity can be utilized. The Luca-r-UV closes the prevalent gap in the UV. The high response in the visible range and the near-IR remains untouched by the new window design. The EMCCD sensor offers a high spatial resolution of one megapixel together with a small pixel size of 8 x 8 µm² while its dynamic range still peaks at 14 bit. The electron multiplication register allows for the amplification of low-light signals which would disappear in the readout noise without EM gain. Thermal noise electrons are reduced by the built-in thermal element which stabilizes the sensor temperature at -20°C. The camera is controlled via the USB 2.0 port and can be connected to any microscope or optical lens with a C-mount. Common applications for the Luca-r are: fluorescence microscopy, TIRF microscopy, bio- and chemiluminescence, live-cell imaging, comet assay, micro fluidics, biochip reading, high throughput screening, lucky imaging in astronomy, photo- and electroluminescence, semiconductor analysis, Kerr microscopy, BEC, (hyper-) spectral imaging.
